What Is DPI?

DPI = Dots Per Inch. The more dots per inch in your image, the more detail there is to print. 72 DPI means there are only 72 dots per inch. 300 DPI means there are 300 dots per inch. 

DPI tells us how much detail your image really has. 300 DPI is required for clean, sharp prints. Low‑DPI images (like 72 DPI) will look blurry when printed. Upload the largest, highest‑quality version of your design to avoid fuzzy results.

Below, you can see that these 3 images were uploaded to our website with 3 different qualities of DPI. One is 175 DPI (low quality in red), one is 250 DPI (enough quality in yellow), and one in 300 DPI (high quality in green). 

NOTE: If you upload an image with a low DPI, our website will automatically resize your image down to the size it will print the sharpest, which will often be much too small for a t-shirt.

Below, you can see that an image sized 10.5 inches with 72 DPI was uploaded. On the left, our website shows that the image will print the best (300 DPI) at only 2.52 inches.
